Zuchinni

We finally picked our first Zuchinni out of the garden.  We have 2 more growing and will be ready soon.

I visited our market again recently and they had a whole basket of zuchinni which included 9 giant ones for sale for only $4.00.  I couldn't pass up the opportunity to purchase this so I could grate and shred all of them for freezing for all the different things I bake with Zuchinni in.  It took me about an hour to grate them all and I managed to produce 39 cups of Zuchinni and I bagged all of it either in one cup or 2 cups.  (Mostly 2 cups)  Most of my recipes call for 2 cups.  When I start baking with it I will post some of the recipes.

Strawberries

We planted some Strawberry Plants this year and we picked our first 3 Berries!  We are so excited that we got some.  I know there are only 3 but you just can't help but get very excited when you grow something on your own.  They were so good and nice and sweet and we are looking forward to more coming before the season is over.  YUMMY!!!! :)

Beer Making

We finally got a home Beer Making Kit.  Timmy got one for his Birthday/Father's Day gift.  He has always wanted one.  He broke the box open last week and made his first batch.  The process wan't that hard and it didn't take too long to put it together but it became very messy one and stinky one as well.  The house had a nasty smell to it for the night.  It has to sit and ferment for 2 weeks now and then we need to bottle it (all 5 gallons of it) and cap them.  And then it needs to sit again for a few weeks before he can even sample it.  I hope it comes out good but that will be up to him if it does because I don't like the taste of any beer.

Firewood

Our yearly supply of Firewood has started to arrive.  They delivered one cord out of the 4 that we ordered.  Our kitchen does not have any heat in it other than our old wood stove.  It works really well but it is something that we have to maintain all day.  We do let it go out at night.  When the wood gets delivered, they dump it on the side of our house because the truck can't back down our little hill to the backyard.  We had to move the wood by ourselves by wheelbarrel full at a time to the back.  We still need to get the basement ready for it.  We have a little wood left over from this past winter but we need to move it so we can use the rest of it up first and then we can start stacking it all in the basement.  We have to keep it in there because we don't have good access to our backyard from our deck yet.  We get everyone involved in helping with this process so it will go real quick.

Snakes

Boy you don't know how much I don't like snakes and guess who found one and picked it up, Meagan!  I am so afraid of snakes it's not funny.  These things are so gross and they creep me out big time.  They make me want to jump up on top of a chair in the house.  Just knowing that it is around our house makes me not want to go outside into the backyard.

My sister posted a picture of one of the three that she has found around her house and they were much bigger than this one...they almost looked like they could have been a rattler.  It did not look like a garden snake to me.  I'm so glad I'm not at her house!

I actually read somewhere that they have a thing called "Snake Away" that you can spray around the house.  I know that snakes are good for the yard to help eat mice and stuff but I may look into it at some point.

Garden

All our plants and flowers are starting to come to life.  The Flowers are all so pretty.  I went around taking pictures of most of the stuff.  One of our garden beds is not doing as well as the other.  I think when we had so much rain last month it had water logged everything. It's all drying out now and getting better but I'm not sure if some of the plants will grow to full size and produce anything.  I guess we will see in time.

This is the garden Bed that is doing really well and the plants are growing really strong.  I love the look of Gardens and I'm so happy about this one.

This is the gardent that looks like it's not growning as well as the one I'm showing above.  Everybody do the Garden Dance for us to help make it grow and be plentiful. :)

My Cherry Tree finally is getting big but still not fruit.  Been dealing with keeping the Japanese Beetles. Oh they are a pain!

One of first of Zuchini....so excited!

We planted strawberries this year too!  We actually have some there if you can see.  They will probably be ready for picking by the end of the month hopefully.

Timmy is planting lots of Hot Peppers again this year.  here is one that we found.  It's a Cayenne Pepper.  He loves to hang these to dry in the house and then crush them up to use in his meals.

Not sure if you can see but there are 2 small cucumbers there growing.

Marigolds

Something has dug a big hole in the garden and also started a small circle one on the right by the rock.  I don't know whats living down there and not sure I want to find out.

My Lilac trees are hiding in this mess.  Timmy has to get it chain saw out and cut down some weird looking trees that just look ugly.

We have these 2 really tall pine trees that are pretty close to the house. They look like they are leaning sometimes.  I hold my breath every winter hoping for them to NOT fall on our house.  They sit right on the line of our property and our neighbors.  We would like to have them taken down someday when we can afford to have them do it.

My Hydrendra Plant

Impaitents looking good.

I have a little flower garden right out our door.  I have Turtle Head Plants, Bishops Weed, Hosta and one other that I don't remember the name.

Stella Doras

Don't know what this one is.
